Classic Cocktail: Alaska
Like many classic cocktails, the origin of the Alaska Cocktail is unknown. Though the Alaska is quite the mystery, it first appeared in Harry Craddock's The Savoy Cocktail Book in 1930. Craddock offers little clue to the drinks origins and only adds to the mystery, "So far as can be ascertained this delectable potion is NOT the staple diet of the Esquimaux. It was probably first thought of in South Carolina- hence it's name." Mystery only adds intrigue to this sweet herbal twist on the Martini.
Alaska Cocktail
1.5 oz Gin (Plymouth)
3/4 oz Yellow Chartreuse
dash of Orange Bitters (Regan's)
In a mixing glass, stir with ice until well chilled. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with a lemon twist.
